A brand new idea

Can you learn the theory of accounting EASILY and get practical experience at the same time? The usual answer to this question is NO.
Maybe you have taken some or a lot of accounting courses during your studies but you lack practical experience. Maybe you have studied another science but you need to know what accounting is all about. How it works. How to construct a balance sheet. How to read an income statement.
The idea on which FASTER is based is to help people to understand accounting and practice it at the same time in a friendly, step-by-step learning virtual accounting office environment.
The user of FASTER is faced with real life accounting and finance problems and is guided to the correct answers and solutions through a series of multiple choice questions, problems solving and self assessment exercises and tests. It substitutes the typical classroom by accessing knowledge everywhere and at any time due to its internet-based structure.
And this is not all…
FASTER aims also at enhancing the labor mobility of accounting profession across EU countries. We believe that mobility of EU citizens who want to work in a foreign country demands not only knowledge of finance and accounting, but also training in national environments and familiarity with other local conditions (laws, terminology, taxation, ethics, etc.). This is why FASTER includes a system of job seeking vacancies and e-CVs, enabling transnational pursuit of jobs.

Interview of Professor George Venieris of the Athens University of Economics and Business, FASTER Project Manager

What are the needs that FASTER is going to fulfill?

I have been teaching accounting for more than thirty years. Every year since that time, there was a need for more practical experience and training for the students. Of course we were doing exercises on the blackboard but those exercises were limited in length and in scope. There was always a demand for what was called Practical Accounting Offices. We tried them but they were very expensive because extensive supervision of the students was necessary and over and above we needed new consumables every year. As time went by, blackboards were substituted by power point presentations for theory teaching and excel files for exercise and problem solving. But still the students were not getting the experience of an accounting working environment.

Is FASTER an answer to the problems you described?

YES. Not only is the solution but also it is the best solution for many reasons. First of all you do not need to incur any costs. Second, you move away from the typical classroom and you go to the magnificent world of internet with the help of information technology. You can study at your ease any time you like. There are more advantages: FASTER provides an innovative, high quality lifelong learning platform, and at the same time it links studies and working environment and widens transnational pursuit of jobs in the field of accounting and finance.

Is FASTER addressing only accounting students?

You cannot imagine how many professionals are interested in accounting and finance issues in their every day work: lawyers, engineers, doctors who run private businesses, you name it. All these people need accounting education but it is hard to get it because they do not know from where and more important they do not have the time to attend vocational seminars. FASTER is what they need. They can get all basic knowledge by a friendly and easy way. And more important...FASTER than any other method.
